Keeping ApoB / LDL low

Atherosclerosis depends on lifetime cumulative exposure to ApoB particles; the earlier and the lower, the fewer heart attacks.

Impact 5/55/5Effort: a habit
First step today

Ask for ApoB and Lp(a) at your next blood test.

How

Measure ApoB (not just LDL) and Lp(a) once. Target ApoB <80 mg/dl, <60 at high risk. Diet (less saturated fat, more fibre) gives 10–15%; statin/ezetimibe 30–50%.

Evidence

EAS consensus (Ference 2017, 200+ studies, 2 million people): LDL is causal, every 1 mmol/l reduction –22% cardiovascular events. Mendelian randomisation: lifelong low LDL means 50% less coronary disease.
